In its annual report, the New Hall IMB notes that:-
- Overall prisoners are treated fairly,
- Generally there is a culture of treating women with dignity,
- The prison continues to provide a positive approach to equality and fairness.
However, the Prison Service needs to address the issue of prisoners with severe mental health problems waiting long periods of time in prison before transferring to more appropriate accommodation elsewhere.
IMB New Hall Chair, Tony Ogden, said:
As in most establishments there are examples of good practice and areas for improvement. New Hall is no different in that respect. The Annual Report sets out in more detail what we the Board consider to be a fair assessment of the situation at New Hall based on the evidence obtained during the reporting period.
Covid restrictions delayed the finalising of the report.
