We are currently looking for volunteers to join IMB Feltham helping to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained. Applications are invited from candidates who live within 25 miles of the prison. Candidates need to be over 18 years of age but do not need any special qualifications or experience as we will provide all necessary training and support. You need to be enthusiastic, open minded, possess effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement. This is an unpaid role, however, expenses will be reimbursed. Feltham is a young offender institution (YOI) for boys and young men aged 15 to 21 located in the London Borough of Hounslow.

Time commitment per month: Approx. 2 visits per month (this may be slightly higher during the induction year) plus the monthly Board meeting which is held on the third Tuesday of the month at 1.30pm usually in person at the prison but occasionally on Zoom.

HMP/YOI Low Newton opened in 1965 as a remand centre, with four wings holding young men up to 21 years of age and a discrete wing for women of all ages, on remand and sentenced. The prison was re-rolled as a women’s prison in 1998 when it was refurbished. It now consists of eight residential wings, together with general prisoner use areas. The establishment holds women of all ages, from 18 years onwards, on remand and sentenced. It includes those serving short sentences to those serving licence sentences and also restricted status (high security) women

The location is accessible by public transport but this takes 2 hours each way from Newcastle. Therefore, it is better if board members have their own transport.

This is an unpaid role, however, expenses will be reimbursed HMP Parc is a Category B Local Prison holding c. 1700 males with a Vulnerable Persons Unit and the only Young Person’s Unit in Wales – which HMIP Inspectors quoted as ‘the best establishment for looking after children and others could learn from the work being done here’ (HMIP Report Nov 2019). Parc also operates the Cynnwys Unit for those with Learning Difficulties which was awarded National Autism Society accreditation (Autumn 2018).

It is a men’s category B local training prison and largely serves South-East Wales and the South Wales Valleys, although there are a number of prisoners from English prisons. It provides predominantly for prisoners serving short-term sentences, remand prisoners and prisoners awaiting sentence.

We are currently looking for new volunteers to join Dungavel IMB helping to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained for those detained at Dungavel House IRC, a fully contained residential Immigration Removal Centre, based in Strathaven, Scotland (please note - public transport to the centre is not available). Applications are invited from candidates over 18 years of age who live within 40 miles of the Centre. Successful applicants will be required to undertake a counter terrorism clearance (CTC) and Disclosure and Barring (DBS) security check.

Time commitment per month: Approx. 2 to 3 visits per month although this may be slightly higher during the first year of training. Board meetings are held on the Third Thursday of every month in the evening.

You need to be enthusiastic, open minded, possess effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement. This is an unpaid role, however, expenses will be reimbursed. HMP Wymott is a Cat C men’s training near Leyland, Lancashire PR26 8LW. It accommodates both men convicted of sexual offences and other Cat C offenders. The prison holds just over 1000 men at present and the site covers a large area on several levels. There is a limited bus service to the prison. Board meetings take place every 2nd Thursday of the monthat 1pm.

This is an unpaid role, however, expenses will be reimbursed. HMP Lancaster Farms is a Cat C adult male resettlement prison with accommodation for around 560 prisoners. The prison located on the outskirts of Lancaster LA1 3QZ. The prison benefits from having a large open central area with grass and flowerbeds. Each wing has open communal spaces, and buildings that are reasonably modern and in a state of good repair. The majority of wing accommodation is single cells, although the number of double cells with bunk beds has increased in recent years. There are now four cells specially adapted for prisoners with reduced mobility. HMP Lancaster Farms is a relatively modern prison with four main residential blocks, each divided into two wings. Additionally, a Chapel and gym facilities are available and well used. Workshops and teaching spaces provide training and education opportunities. The prison benefits from an area where garden and horticulture take place as part of structured activities. Board meetings take place on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 2pm.

The prison has undergone a transformation both culturally and environmentally and was described by HMIP in a recent visit as being on the way towards being one of the best open prisons in the country. The prison is surrounded by lovely countryside and is close to the shoreline. Board meetings take place the 1st Thursday of every month at 12.30pm.

You need to be enthusiastic, open minded, possess effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement. HMP Dartmoor is a Category C training prison located in Princetown in the middle of Dartmoor. Access by public transport is extremely limited. Essentially a Victorian building, there are no lifts and prison wings are up to five levels. There will be an opportunity prior to interview to visit the prison accompanied by current board members. We are currently looking for volunteers to join IMB Send helping to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained. Applications are invited from candidates who live within 25 miles of the prison. Candidates need to be over 18 years of age but do not need any special qualifications or experience as we will provide all necessary training and support. You need to be enthusiastic, open minded, possess effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement. This is an unpaid role, however, expenses will be reimbursed. HMP Send is a closed category women’s prison located in Woking in Surrey. Please be aware that due to the location of the prison applicants without access to their own transport may find it difficult to travel to.

Time commitment per month: Approx 2 – 3 visits per month plus the monthly board meeting. The board meeting is held on the first Tuesday of the month with zoom used for some meetings. Weekend visits are possible.

We are currently looking for new volunteers to join Derwentside IMB helping to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained for those detained at Derwentside IRC, a fully contained residential Immigration Removal Centre for women, based in Consett, County Durham. Applications are invited from candidates over 18 years of age who live within 25 miles of the Centre. Successful applicants will be required to undertake counter terrorism clearance (CTC) and a Disclosure and Barring check (DBS).

Time commitment per month: Approx. 2 to 3 visits per month although this may be slightly higher during the first year of training. Board meetings are held on the Second Wednesday of every month at either 1 or 2pm with remote attendance possible..

We are currently looking for new volunteers to join the IMB at 4 prisons in the North East, Deerbolt, Frankland, Low Newton, and Northumberland, helping to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained. Applicants do not need any special qualifications or experience as we will provide all necessary training and support. Candidates need to be over 18 years of age and live within approx 30 miles of the prisons noted above. You need to be enthusiastic, open minded, possess effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement. This is an unpaid role, however, expenses will be reimbused. HMP/YOI Deerbolt is a prison that accommodates prisoners aged 18-24 in Startforth, near Barnard Castle in County Durham. Given the demographic of the prison, monitoring the conditions for rehabilitation is a key part of the regime. Volunteering with the IMB can make you key to this process. Many members of the community wonder what goes on behind bars in prison's, now by volunteering with the IMB you can find out what fantastic jobs are completed day in day out, and truly make a difference. HMP Frankland High security prison on the outskirts of Durham city housing approximately 800 men in 8 separate wings. HMP/YOI Low Newton opened in 1965 as a remand centre, with four wings holding young men up to 21 years of age and a discrete wing for women of all ages, on remand and sentenced. The prison was re-rolled as a women’s prison in 1998 when it was refurbished. It now consists of eight residential wings, together with general prisoner use areas. The establishment holds women of all ages, from 18 years onwards, on remand and sentenced. It includes those serving short sentences to those serving licence sentences and also restricted status (high security) women. HMP Northumberland: Catagory C , large, (1300+ prisoners) all male prison on a very large estate, in a remote location. The location is accessible by public transport but this takes 2 hours each way from Newcastle. Therefore, it is better if board members have their own transport.

We are currently looking for new volunteers to join the IMB at 4 prisons in Wales (HMP Cardiff, HMP/YOI Parc, HMP Swansea, HMP Usk/Prescoed) helping to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained. Applicants do not need any special qualifications or experience as we will provide all necessary training and support. Candidates need to be over 18 years of age and live within approx 30 miles of the prison. You need to be enthusiastic, open minded, possess effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement. This is an unpaid role, however, expenses will be reimbursed. HMP Cardiff is situated in the heart of the city. It is a men’s category B local training prison and largely serves South-East Wales and the South Wales Valleys, although there are a number of prisoners from English prisons. It provides predominantly for prisoners serving short-term sentences, remand prisoners and prisoners awaiting sentence. HMP Parc is a Category B Local Prison holding around 1700 males.HMP Parc is a Category B Local Prison in Bridgend holding around 1700 males with a Vulnerable Persons Unit and the only Young Person’s Unit in Wales – which HMIP Inspectors quoted as ‘the best establishment for looking after children and others could learn from the work being done here’ (HMIP Report Nov 2019). Parc also operates the Cynnwys Unit for those with Learning Difficulties which was awarded National Autism Society accreditation (Autumn 2018). HMP Swansea is a Category B Local Prison, situated about half a mile from Swansea City Centre HMP Usk/Prescoed is a Category C prison which is 1 prison operating on 2 sites about 3 miles apart. Varied as on 3 sites.
