If you’d like to join an IMB near you, check to see if they are currently looking for new volunteers.

If there are no current vacancies in your area, please register your interest through this form here. You will be added to the mailing list for upcoming vacancies.

Applications to the IMB are completed using an online application form, full guidance on how to fill out the form can be found here. You
should first follow the application form link attached to the advert, to allow you
to register your initial details and access the application form.

When completing the form please note:
• The form will automatically save once you complete each section, or when
you click on the ‘save’ button.
• The application form can be saved and finished at a later time if you wish to
have a break or review your answers at a later date.
• All sections will have to be completed before the submission button can be
activated.

Wakefield is a category A male prison located in the centre of Wakefield, it is high security and due to the age of the building is located over 4 levels Applications are invited from candidates who live within 25 miles of HMP Wakefield. The Board meetings are on the 4th Wednesday of the month at each month at the establishment.

Time commitment per month: Approx. 2 to 3 visits per month although this may be slightly higher during the first year of training. This can be flexible depending on the needs of the Board and the individual.

Board meeting for IMB Hindley take place on the second Wednesday of the month at 9.30am. Board meetings for IMB Risley take place on the last Thursday of the month at 12.30 till 2.30pm

Time commitment per month: Approx. 2-3 visits permonth although this may be slightly higher during the first year.

Whitemoor is a men’s high security prison in March, Cambridgeshire. Applications are invited from candidates who live within 40 miles of HMP Whitemoor. The Board meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month at 10am each month at the establishment.

Time commitment per month: Approx. 2 to 3 visits per month although this may be slightly higher during the first year of training. This can be flexible depending on the needs of the Board and the individual.

HMP Buckley Hall is a public sector Category c prison in Rochdale. It is a relatively small prison, housing some 450 men sentenced to four years or more. The prison is built on the side of a steep hill and this may be a consideration for applicants with mobility issues. Applications are invited from candidates who live within 25 miles of HMP Buckley Hall. Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 10.00 -12.00. Teleconference facilities available for those who cannot attend in person

Wealstun is located between Wetherby and Boston Spa. Applications are invited from candidates who live within 30 miles of HMP Wealstun. The Board meetings are on the Last Monday at 1pm of each month at the establishment.

Altcourse is a privately run male prison in Liverpool.

Leyhill is a cat D open prison situated just off junction 14 off the m5 between Bristol and Gloucester. Capacity is 515 prisoners who are housed in 3 residential units. Set on spacious grounds. Most facilities were purpose built in the late 20th century with major works now ongoing to upgrade the fabric. HMP Leyhill, Torthworth Road, Wotton-Under-edge GL12 8BT.

Time commitment per month: Approx. 2 to 3 visits per month although this may be slightly higher during the first year of training. This can be flexible depending on the needs of the Board and the individual.

HMP Peterborough is in effect two prisons accommodating approx. 900 males and 400 females both sides housing remand and sentenced prisoners. It is located less than a mile from the city centre and has bus stops with easy reach. It is a private prison operated by Sodexo justice services.

Time commitment per month: Approx. 2 to 3 visits per month although this may be slightly higher during the first year of training. This can be flexible depending on the needs of the Board and the individual.

Time commitment per month: Rota week (Usually 1 visit for half a day) every 6 weeks; and 1 further visit a month for Board meeting. It may be slightly higher during the first year of training

Full Sutton is one of 5 dispersal prisons for category A and B adult male prisoners and form part of the long term high security estate. It is situated about 11 miles to the East of York with optional capacity of 586 prisoners. Public transport links are limited and members need access to their own transport to reach the prison. Wings are arranged over 2 levels with inter-connecting staircases with no lifts. Applications are invited from candidates who live within 30 miles of HMP Full Sutton. Board meetings are held on the second Friday morning of the month at 9:30- can be flexible here.

Time commitment per month: Approx. 2 to 3 visits per month although this may be slightly higher during the first year of training. This can be flexible depending on the needs of the Board and the individual.
