John Thornhill OBE steps down as IMB President

John Thornhill 001

John Thornhill’s term as the President of the National Council for Independent Monitoring Boards came to an end in May 2017.

Having been appointed as President in July 2013, John has led IMBs through a time of significant change and has overseen several important developments to strengthen our operations and influence. We thank him for his enormous contribution to monitoring how fairly, justly and humanely those who are detained are treated.

We are currently awaiting the appointment of a new National Chair, following a review of IMB governance. Pending this appointment, Val Meachin is Acting President.
