The Independent Monitoring Board at HMP& YOI Parc Bridgend publishes its annual report today.
- The Board commends the marked increase in education qualification achieved this year and hope these will help prisoners gain meaningful employment on their release.
- We are concerned with the increase in assaults across the establishment and in particular in the Young Person’s Unit. We accept that it is the last resort for courts to send young people to prison but the young people now held in custody can be very volatile and extremely aggressive. Assaults by prisoner against prisoner and by prisoner against staff are also of concern.
- The introduction of the ban on smoking in April 2016 was well managed. However, there has been an increase in incidents/violence believed to be as a result of the no smoking policy.
The Board at HMP & YOI Parc are currently recruiting for new members and would advise any potential candidates to make contact at www.imb.org.uk quoting reference: 576/Parc/2017. The closing date for applications is Sunday 1 October 2017.
