HMP Grendon keeps residents safe but the pandemic affects delivery of its core therapeutic activities.

In its annual report for 2020, the IMB reports that there were no positive COVID-19 cases amongst residents but therapy from April to December was restricted to some small group work in the autumn.

The report notes that:

  • Levels of self-harm and violence remain low but there was increased frustration from residents during the extended lock-down
  • Residents were able to take a shower, exercise out-doors, and had access to a phone on a daily basis
  • Family ties maintained through video technology

IMB Grendon Chair, Christoff Lewis, says ‘the Board commends the efforts of staff and residents to manage the effects of the pandemic and looks forward to seeing a relaxation of the current regime and a return to therapy, which is the reason that men come to Grendon’.
