Appointment of first National Chair of Independent Monitoring Boards

The Secretary of State for Justice has appointed Dame Anne Owers as the first National Chair of Independent Monitoring Boards.

Dame Anne is a former Chief Inspector of Prisons and Chair of a review of prisons in Northern Ireland, amongst many other senior roles.  Her appointment represents a significant milestone for IMBs in strengthening their scrutiny and influence.

Val Meachin will continue as Acting President until Dame Anne starts her new role on 1 November.
