Altcourse IMB highlight the impact of staffing shortages on the effective running of the prison

The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) at HMP Altcourse has published its Annual Report points include:

  • The consequences of fewer staff have been felt throughout the prison, particularly within the Offender Management Unit and in the provision of education and pursuit of vocational qualifications
  • Continuing concern regarding the presence of drugs, particularly New Psychoactive Substances, and mobile phones within the establishment
  • Concerns about the provision of food – quality and quantity
  • The Board are pleased to note the positive work being done with all prisoners to divert them away from substance misuse, in particular NPS, and involvement in incidents of violence.
