Applications to the IMB are completed using an online application form, full guidance on how to fill out the form can be found here. You
should first follow the application form link attached to the advert, to allow you
to register your initial details and access the application form.

When completing the form please note:
• The form will automatically save once you complete each section, or when
you click on the ‘save’ button.
• The application form can be saved and finished at a later time if you wish to
have a break or review your answers at a later date.
• All sections will have to be completed before the submission button can be
activated.

HMP Norwich is a CAT B local prison overlooking Mousehold Health in Norwich. It is on 3 sites and includes a small open prison. There are around 720 prisoners in the establishment who are given opportunities for rehabilitation including education and vocational subjects like bricklaying, carpentry and painting and decorating. The prison is currently operating differently due to the restrictions imposed on It by the covid-19 pandemic. Applications are invited from candidates who live within 30 miles of HMP Norwich. Meeting takes place on first Wednesday of the month. We regret that we cannot reimburse expenses incurred in attending familiarisation visits or interviews.

We are currently looking for new volunteers to join IMB Bristol helping to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained. The board at HMP Bristol is keen to improve representation from Black, Asian and any other minority communities in the UK. Candidates need to be over 18 years of age and live within approx. 25 miles of the prison. HMP Bristol is a Category B prison which currently holds mainly adult male prisoners. In addition to this, there are a small number of young offenders. It is a local prison which means it only holds convicted and remand inmates from local Courts; and most prisoners are only incarcerated at HMP Bristol for twelve months or less.

Time commitment per month: 2 - 3 visits per month, however, this may be higher during training period. Board meetings (face to face) take place every first Wednesday of the month at 1pm

Applications are invited from candidates who live within 30 miles from HMP/YOI Portland and 30 miles from HMP The Verne. HMP Portland is a Cat C adult male and young offender institution situated in the village of The Grove on the Isle of Portland. It is easily accessible by road - Portland DT5 1DL. At present, Board meetings take place on the second Wednesday of the month at 9.45am. They are alternated face to face with Zoom. HMP The Verne is a Cat C male adult prison located within the historic Vewrne Citadel on the Isel of Portland , Dorset. Board meetings take place every 4th Thursday of the month at 10.30am till 2.30pm (12.30 - 1pm for lunch).

Time commitment per month: 2 -3 visits per month though this may be higher during the first year of training.

Applications are invited from candidates who live within 30 miles of HMP Ashfield. Board meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 1pm. HMP Ashfield is a specialist rehabilitation prison. It is located in the village of Pucklechurch, approx 9 miles from Bristol and Bath.

Time commitment per month: 2 - 3 visits per month though this may be slighly higher in the first year of induction.

Wetherby is an establishment for young offenders between the ages of 15 to 18. It holds both male and female prisoners who are on remand or sentenced for a wide range of offences. It is not easily accessible by public transport. Applications are invited from candidates who live within 30 miles of HMP Wetherby. Meeting takes place on the third Monday of the month. We regret that we cannot reimburse expenses incurred in attending familiarisation visits or interviews.

Whitemoor is a men’s high security prison in March, Cambridgeshire. Applications are invited from candidates who live within 40 miles of HMP Whitemoor. The Board meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month at 10am each month at the establishment.

Time commitment per month: Approx. 2 to 3 visits per month although this may be slightly higher during the first year of training. This can be flexible depending on the needs of the Board and the individual.
